When spring arrives, several changes in the environment can affect your skin. Here are a few things that typically happen to your skin during this season:

  1. Increased Humidity: Spring often brings a rise in humidity levels. This can help hydrate your skin, as it prevents it from getting too dry, which is common in winter. The moisture in the air helps keep your skin feeling soft and smooth.

  2. Sun Exposure: With the sun becoming stronger, you may get more sun exposure. While the sunlight is great for vitamin D, it can also increase the risk of skin damage, including sunburn, premature aging, and an increased risk of skin cancer. It’s important to wear sunscreen and a hat to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

  3. Allergies and Sensitivity: Spring is known for allergies due to pollen, which can trigger skin reactions like rashes, eczema flare-ups, or general irritation for people who are sensitive. You may also experience itchy eyes, which can cause you to rub your eyes and irritate the skin around them. Solution= don’t rub your eyes. Use a cold compress instead.

  4. Breakouts: As temperatures rise, people tend to sweat more. When sweat mixes with bacteria, dirt, and oil on the skin’s surface, it can lead to clogged pores and acne breakouts, particularly on the face, chest, and back. Solution= wash your face after you sweat or exercise. Also use products that are non-comedogenic.

  5. Skin Rejuvenation: The change in weather, especially from cold to warmer temperatures, can signal your skin to shed some of the old, dry skin cells from winter. As new skin cells regenerate, you may notice a fresher, more youthful complexion. Use a face polish to help remove dead skin.

  6. Increased Skin Activity: During spring, you may notice your skin becomes oilier, especially if the weather is fluctuating between warmer and cooler. The sebaceous glands, which produce oil, can become more active, leading to a shift in how your skin feels and looks. Solution= keep skin matte and reduce surface oil by using a clay mask weekly.

  7. Use a protective daycream- A daycream that protects from environmental stressors and is high in Vitamin C such as balance and brighten day cream is important to keep skin youthful.
